Article Summary
Eating together is a great opportunity to talk with your children. A healthy, varied diet rich in fruit and vegetables will promote everybody's well-being.
FOOD
We cannot stress enough how important it is for the family to find times when they can all sit together at table for at least one of the daily meals. Not only does it enhance a lovely feeling of togetherness but also, because the little one is at the copycat stage, she will want to try everything that her older brother is eating.
So this is an ideal time to introduce to the baby an increasing variation in tastes and textures. At first, give the baby a tiny amount that she can pick up with her fingers so that she is in control of the new trial. Don’t forget always to keep salt down to a minimum, and to include five portions of fruit or vegetables every day.
Cutting fruit into interesting shapes (squares, triangles, circles, soldiers) will encourage both children to want to eat them, although they may divert to playing puzzles rather than consuming them as food! Having a personalized plate and mug for each of the children is something your older child will particularly like, but do make sure that he gets his crockery and cutlery and not the baby’s.
